Fandom Snowflake Challenge banner 2018

In your own space, write a love letter to Fandom in general, to a particular fandom, to a trope, a relationship, a character, or to your flist/circle/followers.

I've struggled to find the words for this challenge and how to narrow down my focus. One of the many great things about this challenge is that it makes me reflect and think more deeply about fandom (which I'm sure I'm guilty of taking for granted sometimes).

The heart of what I want to say is thank you. This fandom and my flist have welcomed me with open arms, have encouraged my creativity in so many ways, have cheered me up when I was down, have cried and squeed right beside me, and I know that when I'm here this is a safe place, a warm place, a place where I'm surrounded and supported by friends. So thank you to all of you! Without sounding too sappy, you mean the world to me and I don't know what I'd do without you and this wonderful place in my life ♥

In your own space, create your own challenge. Whatever your challenge is, have fun with it!

I'm going to interact more in my chosen platform of LJ! I'm going to try and post more, leave more comments, reach out to new people, press that friend button, participate in challenges, and just rejoice in the happy place that my flist is!!! I'm surrounded by old and new friends and I'm just going to allow myself more time to enjoy it, and I encourage you to do the same

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

1. I'd like to post more on LJ. I do post fics, episode drabbles, recs etc, but I'd like to be a bit more active here in terms of posting on my journal; whether that's more personal posts or just something random.
2. Last year I wanted to complete and post a fic that wasn't linked to a challenge, and I managed it. So I'd like to match that, or even maybe increase it if I can.
3. Carry on writing a drabble for each episode of season 13 (so far, so good. I did this for seasons 11 and 12 and I'd like to keep it up as it helps to keep me more active in fandom).

In your own space, create a fanwork.

I recently wrote a fic for the spn_j2_xmas challenge (it's told through the eyes of a series of outsider POVs at a motel and features hurt!boys) and you can find that here.

I would like to write a drabble, but I can't think of a simple prompt, so if you have any ideas drop me a line and maybe it'll spark some inspiration!

EDIT - milly_gal's suggestion - Decorating (fill in comments)

Share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life.

Supernatural
introduced me to fandom. Before it, there were many shows that I enjoyed and would watch over and over, but nothing made me seek out more; whether that was spoilers, photos, interviews etc. It was while looking for something more that I stumbled across fanfiction, and then the idea of a fandom community in general.

Over the years my experience of SPN fandom has changed. I've gone from being an anonymous lurker and commenter, to opening accounts and posting stories, to taking part in challenges, and meeting and interacting with a whole group of people who I consider friends. This is a huge thing for me, something that I hope has changed me in a positive way, and certainly something that has enriched my life. So yes, Supernatural has left a mark, and a very big and important one too.

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (Or a few!) Tell us what makes it work for you, and why it appeals to you so much. Talk about what you like to see in fanworks featuring that theme most.

My love for H/C has been around for as long as I can remember - in SPN, as well as a lot of other TV shows/books/movies etc, especially if it's a character that I'm fond of, or hold dear to my heart. Perhaps it's a mothering thing, and part of me wants to fix them? Or maybe it's just the image of a hero showing vulnerability? Whatever it is, I love it.

For SPN I especially love hurt!Sam with a side of caring Dean (and hey, if he's suffering a little too that's a bonus!) I love to see the Winchester's show their vulnerable side, and with h/c you often get the benefit of seeing their brotherly bond shine through all that fear and worry.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Reccing my own work is something that I always struggle with and for that reason alone, it's also one of the challenges that I make myself complete. So here we go;

1. Lost and Found (Sam and Jess, gen. PG13). Future/Season 13 Fic (speculative only). Sam travels back to the alternate dimension to save Mary, only to bump into an all too familiar face.

Last year I made myself promise that I'd try to post more fic that wasn't part of a challenge, and this is the fruits of that promise. It's only one fic, but that's better than the zero of years before, so it's a step in the right direction! Coincidentally, alyndra wrote me a gift fic for spn_j2_xmas that fits so well with this but ia told from Jess's POV and you can check that out
here.

2. MIA (Sam and Dean, gen. PG13). She's always had a soft spot for strays, but there's something different about this one, and more than anything she wants him to find whoever he's lost. Hurt!Boys! Outsider POV.

So I wrote this a long time ago, but I'm still very fond of it! It was my first outsider POV fic, and it's full of hurt!boys and just things that I love in a fic, so I guess it's pretty self-indulgent too.

3. Exposed (J2. PG13). Photographer!Jensen captures something on camera that will forever change his life. But can he get Jared to admit his most deepest and darkest secrets?

This was written for the 2017 spnspringfling challenge for backrose_17 and because I love to a bit superheroes AU, I thought I'd add it to the list!

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

This might be stretching this challenge, but the relationship between Sam and Dean is what drew me to Supernatural and to fandom, and I love it. It's a complicated thing; it's ended the world, it's maybe/definitely unhealthy, but we've been there through the highs and lows, and we've seen it grow and develop, and for me it's fascinating to watch, and I can't enough of it! The bickering and banter, the arguments and fallouts, those man-hugs, the tears and smiles, the way they communicate non-verbally - basically, just all of it! For me they're very much a package deal - you can't have one without the other! They are the reason I started watching, and they are the reason I'm still here.

In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are.

I always find these kind of things very uncomfortable but I went into this challenge telling myself that I wouldn't skip a day, so here I am!
